⚡ Important — Electrical Compliance
Connecting a heat pump to your power supply is prescribed electrical work in New Zealand. It must be carried out by an electrician registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB), who issues a Certificate of Compliance and an Electrical Safety Certificate once the job is done. Every install we complete is connected and certified by a registered electrician — we never sign off uncertified work. Most standard residential heat pump installs don’t need building consent. You can check any electrician’s registration at ewrb.govt.nz.
One Assessment. The Right Unit. A Price That Holds.
Quick answer: We supply, install, and certify heat pumps across Auckland — single high-wall units, multi-room and whole-home setups, ducted systems, and Healthy Homes compliance heating for rentals. One site visit sizes the job, you get a fixed quote, and a registered electrician certifies the connection.
Most heat pump quotes go one of two ways. Either someone quotes over the phone without seeing the room — and the number moves once they turn up — or they fit whatever unit they’ve got in the van, whether it suits the space or not. An undersized heat pump runs flat out and never quite warms the room. An oversized one short-cycles, costs more to run, and wears out faster.
We size the unit to the actual room, give you a fixed quote before a single bracket goes up, and a registered electrician connects and certifies it. For landlords getting rentals Healthy Homes compliant in Manukau and Henderson, through to homeowners warming up a villa in Mt Eden — same approach, every time.
Heat Pump Work We Cover
Electrical connection certified by a registered electrician. Fixed quote every time.
01 — High-Wall Supply & Install
The standard single-room heat pump — a high-wall indoor unit paired with an outdoor compressor. We supply the unit, mount both heads, run and insulate the refrigerant lines, and a registered electrician wires it in and certifies the connection. Right for a lounge, a bedroom, or a home office in anything from a Grey Lynn villa to a Hobsonville townhouse.
Certificate of Compliance issued. You keep the paperwork.
02 — Multi-Room & Whole-Home
Heating more than one room means either several single units or a multi-head system running off one outdoor unit. We work out which makes more sense for your home and budget, factoring in pipe runs, wall space, and where the outdoor unit can sit without annoying the neighbours. Common across larger Remuera and Epsom homes that need consistent heating beyond the main living area.
Planned as one job, not bolted on room by room.
03 — Healthy Homes Compliance Heating
Every private rental has had to meet the Healthy Homes heating standard since 1 July 2025 — a fixed heater that can warm the main living room to 18°C. A correctly sized heat pump is the most common way to meet it. We size to the official MBIE calculation for the room, install, and hand you documentation confirming the heater meets the required capacity.
Sized to the standard, with proof for your records.
04 — Replacement & Upgrade
Most heat pumps last 10–15 years. When yours stops holding temperature, leaks, ices up, or starts making noise it never used to, replacement usually beats repair. We remove the old unit, dispose of it properly including the refrigerant, and install the new one — often reusing existing brackets and core holes where they’re sound, which keeps the cost down.
Old unit out, new one in, certified — usually in a single visit.
05 — Ducted Systems
A ducted heat pump hides the gear in the ceiling and pushes heating and cooling through discreet vents in each room — no wall units on show. It’s the tidiest option for renovations and new builds where you want even temperatures throughout. We assess ceiling space, duct runs, and zoning, then give you a fixed quote. Popular in Herne Bay and Takapuna homes being done up to a higher spec.
Whole-home comfort, with the hardware out of sight.
06 — Servicing & Cleaning
A heat pump that’s never serviced loses efficiency, costs more to run, and pushes dust and mould spores around the room. We clean filters, coils, and the indoor unit, check the refrigerant charge and drainage, and flag anything that’s heading for trouble. For landlords, a regular service between tenancies keeps units running and protects the asset.
Cleaner air, lower running costs, longer unit life.
07 — Old Unit Removal & Disposal
Refrigerant can’t go down the drain or into a skip — it has to be recovered and disposed of correctly. When we replace a heat pump, removal and proper disposal of the old unit is part of the job, not an afterthought you’re left to sort out. We pull the indoor and outdoor heads, recover the refrigerant, and leave the wall ready for the new install.
Removed and disposed of properly — refrigerant included.
08 — Sizing & Site Assessment
The single biggest factor in whether a heat pump actually performs is whether it’s sized for the room. We measure the floor area, ceiling height, glazing, insulation, and aspect, then match the heating capacity to it — not to whatever’s on special. For rentals, we size to the MBIE Healthy Homes heating calculation so the unit clears the standard with margin to spare.
The right capacity for the room — measured, not guessed.

Heat Pumps for Landlords — Healthy Homes Sorted
The Healthy Homes heating deadline has already passed. Since 1 July 2025, every private rental in New Zealand must have a fixed heater that can warm the main living room to at least 18°C. The Tenancy Tribunal can order up to $7,200 per breach — and the bigger cost for most landlords is not being able to lease the property until the work’s done. A correctly sized heat pump is the most common way to clear the standard.
We size to the MBIE heating calculation — not a guess. The required capacity depends on the room’s floor area, ceiling height, glazing, and insulation. We run the numbers against the official calculation for your specific living room, so the unit we install clears the standard rather than scraping it. Open-plan kitchen-living areas get sized for the combined space.
We can batch installs across your portfolio. Four rentals across Papatoetoe, Mt Roskill, and New Lynn all needing compliant heating? We schedule them together, work around tenancies, and give you one scope document covering every property. Less chasing, lower per-property cost, one point of contact.
Documentation after every job. You get the Certificate of Compliance for the electrical work plus confirmation the heater meets the required capacity. Keep it with your property file — it’s what an inspector, tenant, or insurer may ask for.
💡 Property tip — Warmer Kiwi Homes grant (homeowners)
If you own and live in a home built before 2008, hold a Community Services Card or SuperGold Combo Card (or live in an eligible low-to-middle-income area), you may qualify for a Warmer Kiwi Homes grant covering up to 90% of an approved heat pump — capped at $3,450, with most eligible homeowners paying $300–$700 out of pocket. The grant is for owner-occupiers only, not rentals, and your home needs adequate ceiling and underfloor insulation first. Funded installs run through EECA’s approved providers. Check whether your address qualifies at eeca.govt.nz.

Heat Pump FAQs — Auckland Homeowners & Landlords
Do I need a registered electrician to install a heat pump in New Zealand?
Connecting a heat pump to your power supply is prescribed electrical work, so the connection must be done by an electrician registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB). Once it's complete, the electrician issues a Certificate of Compliance and an Electrical Safety Certificate. You'll need both for your home insurance and the manufacturer's warranty, so keep them with your property file. Every install we complete is connected and certified by a registered electrician.
How much does it cost to supply and install a heat pump in Auckland?
A single high-wall heat pump for a typical living room generally runs from around $2,000 to $3,500 supplied and installed, based on Tenancy Services guidance. The final number depends on the unit's capacity and brand, where the outdoor unit sits, the length of the pipe run, and access. Multi-room, larger-capacity, and ducted systems cost more. We assess the job on site and give you a fixed quote before any work starts — so the invoice matches the number you approved.
What size heat pump do I need?
The right capacity comes down to the room's floor area, ceiling height, glazing, insulation, and which way it faces. An undersized unit runs flat out and never quite warms the room; an oversized one short-cycles and costs more to run. We measure the space and match the heating capacity to it. For rentals, we size to the official MBIE Healthy Homes heating calculation for the main living room.
Does a heat pump meet the Healthy Homes heating standard for my rental?
Yes, as long as it's correctly sized. Since 1 July 2025, every private rental must have a fixed heater that can warm the main living room to at least 18°C, and a heat pump is the most common compliant option. The key is sizing it to the MBIE calculation for that specific room — an undersized unit won't meet the standard. We size to the calculation and provide documentation confirming the heater meets the required capacity.
Do I need building consent to install a heat pump?
In most cases, no. Auckland Council confirms that standard residential heat pump installs generally don't require building consent. The exception is heat pump hot water cylinders, which do need consent. Any external penetration through a wall is done carefully to avoid letting moisture in. If your situation is unusual, we'll flag it before quoting.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
Most single high-wall installs and straight replacements are done in a single day. We're typically on site within the week of you approving the quote. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer and we'll give you a clear timeframe in the quote. Burst-of-cold-weather demand can stretch lead times, so getting in before winter is worth it.
Can you replace or upgrade my old heat pump?
Yes. When a unit stops holding temperature, leaks, ices up, or gets noisy, replacement usually beats repair on anything over about 10 years old. We remove and dispose of the old unit — refrigerant included, which can't legally go in a skip — and install the new one. Where existing brackets and core holes are sound, we reuse them to keep the cost down.
Can you install heat pumps across multiple rental properties?
Yes. We batch installs across landlord portfolios regularly. If you've got several rentals needing Healthy Homes compliant heating, we schedule them together, work around tenancies, and give you one scope document covering every property — one company, one point of contact, one set of paperwork. It lowers the per-property cost and saves you chasing multiple trades.
