Do I need a registered electrician for all electrical work in New Zealand?
Yes. In New Zealand, all prescribed electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrician – someone registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB). This covers virtually all wiring, switchboard work, new circuits and fixed appliance installation. DIY electrical work beyond very minor tasks is illegal and can void your home insurance. Every electrician we send is EWRB-registered.
How much does a switchboard upgrade cost in Auckland?
A standard switchboard replacement – removing an old ceramic fuse board and fitting a modern consumer unit with breakers and RCDs – typically runs between $1,500 and $3,500 depending on the number of circuits and the condition of the existing wiring. We assess your board and give you a fixed price before any work starts.
How much does EV charger installation cost?
EV charger installation in Auckland typically runs between $800 and $2,500 for a standard home install, depending on the distance from your switchboard to the garage, whether your panel needs upgrading, and the charger unit. We assess your switchboard capacity first and include any upgrade in your fixed quote.
What smoke alarms are required in NZ rental properties?
Rental properties must have working smoke alarms in every bedroom and in every room between a bedroom and an exit. Interconnected alarms are strongly recommended and may be required depending on the property. We install photoelectric alarms to the correct specification and provide documentation for your tenancy file.
Can you carry out electrical work across multiple rental properties?

What documentation do I get after electrical work is completed?
After all prescribed electrical work we issue an Electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC) – the legal record that the work was done by a registered electrician and tested to the relevant standard. Keep it with your property file; it’s what your insurer and any future buyer or tenant may ask for.
How quickly can you respond to an electrical fault?
